Abstract

Pain in the buttock and lower extremities can have many different causes, but the exact source of this type of pain is often diffi cult to identify. Although it has been reported that lesions on the obturator internus muscle may be the cause of such pain, this is rarely seen in clinical practice. A patient with pain in the buttock and ipsilateral lower extremities was referred to our clinic for a nerve root block after she was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. The nerve root block was not effective, but the patient experienced a slight effect after a piriformis muscle injection and signifi cant improvement of her symptoms after we performed an obturator internus muscle injection.
